Bullock Track

The weather was great and the forest running was fast as the McMillan family set and hosted the latest local orienteering event. Held in the Bullock Track area on the western edge of the Bendigo Regional Park, a smaller than usual field of competitors turned out in what was actually fantastic conditions for some fast open orienteering.
Course 1 attracted 10 with Ben not being challenged from the start for a 2.31 minute win over Simon and Jimmy filling the top three. Between the runner s and the walkers ā€“ a full hour separated first from last over a distance of 7.5km. The largest field ran in Course 2 with 19 competitors. The lead changed 3 times with eventual winner Andrew speeding away ahead of Nick and Warwick less than 2 minutes behind. Curiously a couple in this course ran past the second last control, straight to the finish before realising their mistake and having to double back or face a mispunch!
Course 3 was ever popular with 13 competitors. Solomon, returning from a short break took top spot in under 26 minutes (surprising himself), more than 7 minutes ahead of Charles and Alison further down the field. The moderate and easy courses attracted smaller numbers with Rick, Hugo, Harper and Ian in C4, and Charlotte, Xavier and Jack having a closer run race and changing leads in C5.
For those interested, we have a club member (Coach Jymbo) currently in Estonia with the Aus WOC team. If you have facebook, Orienteering Australia has a video of the team accommodation, narrated by Brodie Nankervis. Also in Europe, but a little further north in Finland, the Australian JWOC team has gathered to train for the up coming JWOC carnival. Follow this link for the team blog ā€“ http://ausjuniororienteering.blogspot.com.au/
Next week we head out to Mt Korong, Iā€™m sure that Darren has prepared a nice set of challenging courses for us to enjoy.
