Anzac weekend in the Flinders

26 Apr 2016 by Don Cherry

While many of us enjoyed local events and the glorious weather in central Vic, a small contingent of Bendigo Orienteers went west to the Flinders Ranges for a NOL double, including the SA Middle distance Champs and Wildfire Sports Ultralong.
The middle attracted over 200 from around Oz. Notable for Bendigo – Leon Keely won the M21E, with Alison Radford the best of the rest in 4th for the W65.
The Ultralong which must be designed by sadists and attended by masochists is a gruelling 28km run for the M21E class. Leon was topgun again with a win in 2:31:56 ahead of Simon Uppill (OHS) and Brodie Nankervis (EVT). Ben Goonan ran a commendable 7th. The slowest time in this class was over 4:36 hours (Ouch!). The W21E was a tough 18.26km run won by Belinda Lawford (ACT in 2:01:52) over Natasha Key (MFR) and Vanessa Round (TTS). In other classes Alison Radford won her W65 class and Tony Radford finished a commendable 3rd in the M65. Dianne Searle also had a good run finishing 5th in the W65.
Plenty of photos and video available on FB and other locations.
